Orange Blossoms for a vintage themed wedding

The Orange blossom is the fragrant flower of the Citrus sinensis (orange tree). It is used in perfume making, has been written about as an aphrodisiac and is the state flower of Florida. It is traditionally associated with good fortune and has been popular in bridal bouquets and head wreaths for weddings. Orange blossom essence is an important component in the making of perfume.

I have been often asked to make them and here is my latest set for a bride who is going to be creating a head wreath out of it..

Incorporating orange blossoms into the bride's costume originated in ancient China where they were emblems of purity, chastity and innocence. There are few trees so prolific as the orange; it is one of the rare plants that blooms and bears fruit at the same time, thus becoming symbolic of fruitfulness.

During the time of the Crusades, the custom was brought from the East first to Spain , then to France , then to England in the early 1800's. By then, many enchanting legends had spread throughout the continent of maidens entwining fresh orange blossoms into a bridal wreath for their hair. The influence became so indoctrinated into the culture that the phrase "to gather orange blossoms" took the meaning " to seek a wife". Even America became enthralled with the bridal orange blossoms.

The 19th century bride even decorated her gown with this symbol of fertility. But it was Queen Victoria who created the vogue for the sweet smelling blossoms when she wore them in a grand wreath for her 1840 wedding, and the classic floral theme for the Victorian bride was set. Ever since Winsor brides have taken care to tuck an orange blossom in their bridal ensemble

Orange blossoms vintage wedding cake

I have been busy with a quick turn around order that Magnolia Bay Tofee company has given.

I had an order of orange blossoms and I thought I will arrange it on cake to see how it looks? I could quite arrange it nicely as I can't poke a hole into the dummy cakes but I think it will look very well.

vintage wedding bouquet

Courtney had ordered a grey and cream wedding nosegay of ranunculus and poppies,I thought since it was a vintage themed wedding I asked her is I could include some orange blossoms are they were looking lovely together and aptly fit her theme.

The bouquet is a nosegay which has turned quite pretty and refreshing! The bouquet has grey poppies, cream ranunculus, orange blossoms,a bit of twirls of feathers and I added a nice ivory ribbon beneath to give it a nice vintage finish. The bouquet is finished off with a green ribbon which was going better with the bouquet.
